Louise Spieler works closely with the school's senior academic officers and key administrative staff to ensure optimal operation of the school. She also incubates and implements strategic initiatives as directed by the dean.  

In addition, Spieler leads global activites, professional education and career services. She also coordinates international partnerships with universities in Brisbane, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, London, Pamplona, Paris and Santiago. Prior to 2014, she managed the school's e-learning programs, including launching the online M.A. in Technology and Communication.

Spieler serves on the boards of Carolina Public Press and the UNC Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies and is a member of the International Affairs Advisory Committee and the Provost Committee on Inclusive Excellence and Diversity.

Spieler joined the school in 2004. Previously, she held senior management positions with national trade and professional associations, including the Council of State Governments in Lexington, Ky. She also co-owned The News-Record, the county newspaper in Marshall, N.C.
