Carolina places two nominees in SXSW Interactive student category for third year in a row
“Living Galápagos” and the 2012 Carolina Photojournalism Workshop’s “Port City Stories” are each one of five projects in the category "devoted exclusively to the student designers who are refreshing this industry with new talent and new ideas."
"Living Galápagos" is a multimedia website that explore's the impact of mankind on the Galápagos Islands. The bi-lingual site contains a mix of human interest and science-related content, offering education, awareness and entertainment for audiences worldwide.
“Port City Stories” marks the ninth consecutive summer that multimedia students from the school have traveled to a North Carolina location to document the area. In 2012, students – with the help of professionals serving as coaches – told the stories of people living in Wilmington – North Carolina's largest port city.
“Coal: A Love Story,” an interactive multimedia website produced by Carolina journalism students which explores modern culture’s complicated relationship with coal, won in the student category of the 2012 SXSW Interactive Awards.
The winners will be announced at the 16th Annual SXSW Interactive Awards Ceremony in Austin on March 12.
