Media and Journalism minor
NOTE: The following minor curriculum information is for those applying to the program beginning Fall 2017. Curriculum requirements for students who entered the minor program prior to Fall 2017 can be found by speaking with an MJ-school academic adviser or by consulting the appropriate Office of the University Registrar Undergraduate Catalog.
Students majoring outside the school may earn a minor in the School of Media and Journalism. Participation is limited to 35 juniors and seniors collectively, and admission is competitive. The school may limit enrollment in some sub-plans to avoid pressure on any required courses for majors. Interested students must submit an application between Oct. 15 and Jan. 15 of their sophomore or junior year — preference is given to sophomores with a GPA higher than 3.4.
In addition to the program requirements listed below, students must:
- take at least nine hours of their minor course requirements at UNC–Chapel Hill
- earn a minimum of 12 hours of C or better in the minor (some minors require more)
There are three minor sub-plans within the school: Business Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations and Journalism. Prerequisites apply unless otherwise indicated.
