David Brinkley Teaching Excellence Award
THE AWARD The School of Journalism and Mass Communication’s David Brinkley Teaching Excellence Award recognizes a faculty member for excellence in teaching at any level (undergraduate, graduate, or both) and for commitment to helping students inside and outside the classroom. The winner will be recognized and receive a generous prize at the school’s annual scholarship and awards convocation in April.
ELIGIBILITY
Full-time faculty members who have taught at the journalism school for two or more years are eligible for nomination. If you aren’t sure whether a faculty member qualifies, Cathy Packer, chair of the David Brinkley Teaching Excellence Award committee, can help you.
HOW TO NOMINATE
A successful nomination will be composed of:
1) A letter of nomination from a JOMC faculty member or student. Self-nominations are accepted.
2) No more than five supporting letters (in addition to the letter of nomination). Any additional letters will be discarded. These letters may be from faculty, undergraduate or graduate students or recent graduates. Letters should be requested by the nominator. It is the nominator's responsibility to assure that the letters are submitted. In the case of self-nominations, the person requesting letters should not request any letters from current students who are dependent on the nominator for a grade.
3) The person who is nominated will be asked by the committee chair to submit a vitae and a three-page statement that describes the individual's teaching philosophy and accomplishments. The focus should be on teaching excellence. Submission of these materials will enhance the application.
DEADLINE
Nominations must be received by Linda Peterson in the school's front office by March 1.
