Chuck Stone Program
for Diversity in Education and Media

The Chuck Stone Program for Diversity in Education and Media identifies and brings to Carolina’s campus 12 talented high school students from diverse backgrounds across the U.S. for an intensive one-week summer workshop in journalism and mass communication. The program seeks rising seniors interested in journalism careers.

The program honors the legacy of professor Chuck Stone, who retired from the school in 2005, and allows students to experience UNC campus life and to become acquainted with the J-school. Seven of the 20 students who attended the 2007 inaugural Chuck Stone Program returned during the fall 2008 semester as Tar Heels.

2012 Summer Program

The 2012 program will be held at UNC-Chapel Hill July 8-13. Aspiring high school journalists who will be seniors in the 2012-2013 school year are encouraged to apply. Priority deadline for application materials is April 1, 2012.
